in defense of Soccer and why i'll watch it more
So of course all over my feed are people all naysaying soccer, especially since the US petered out cause no one but the goalie seemed to ever come to play.
Sure there is a lot of flopping in Soccer, a lot of trying to draw penalties, but if you think about it it's a harder game than a lot of what we watch and celebrate so highly. I see why soccer is such a big deal in other countries.
for 90 mins two 45 min halfs you are running up and down a field guiding a ball with your feet, shins any part of your body that isn't your hands to try and kick into a net where there are people determined to not let you kick it into. You have to pivot turn and guide a lil ball with your feet away from people trying to use their feet to kick it away from you. you get kicked in the shin, pushed down, kicked int he face, kneed in the back, and all without pads, save shin guards and that's it.
I have much respect for the athleticism of soccer. you have to be in good condition to do what they do for that long. A lot of my people on my feed though play derby. They are all like whatever i get bruises and bumps and blah blah blah about flopping and scoring being so low and stuff like that.
Your in full pads. try playing derby with just shin guards and skates for 90 mins and 45 min halfs, penalty cards and no real timeouts... what no? That's what I thought. Flopping... lets discuss what i like to call Rodmanning. I was rodmanning 4 years ago, and it's more prevalent now than before in derby make it believable and refs will call a back block even if the person who gets the penalty gave the girl a five foot cushion. No matter what Refs say, they will always react to the effect and not the contact. It takes years for a ref to be immune to the rodman and still a skilled rodmanner can still get them. It's strategic especially if you've been running up and down a field for 56 mins and the score is still 0-0. Why not try and get a free kick right on the goal?
Also Soccer is a true team sport. Yes, there are stars, but they ultimately have to rely on their team mates to get them into a position to be...stars. If the goalie can't block, if the other players can't keep possession of the ball. Doesn't matter how good you are, you won't be getting a goal today son. You can't be a ball hog either or you will get triple teammed and then you can't do anything but get intercepted. Derby for a lot of leagues still don't fully understand the importance of true team work. Till that happens and everything else, whining about Soccer and their players and it being boring isn't justified. Your argument is not valid. Of course finding soccer games to watch... that could be hard. i'll have to research that. Then i can decide on a team i like and cheer for them. yay for more sports to watch.
